Blessed Gerardo Sasso (c. 1040 – 1120) was a Benedictine lay brother and the visionary founder of the Order of Malta, later known as the Knights Hospitaller. Appointed rector of the hospice in Jerusalem in 1080, he devoted his life to caring for the sick and poor. Following the First Crusade, his mission received papal recognition in 1113, making him the first Grand Master of the Hospitallers.
Blessed Gerardo Sasso is associated with bread because of his deep commitment to feeding the poor, the sick, and pilgrims. As rector of the hospice in Jerusalem, he not only provided medical care but also ensured that the hungry were fed—a crucial part of his mission of mercy and hospitality.
What made these bookmarks featuring the prayer to Blessed Gerard extra special is that they were beautifully designed and printed in the Mediterranean island of Malta.

St. Gertrude the Great, was a 13th-century Benedictine nun in Helfta, Saxony, and was one of the great mystics of the 13th century. Together with her friend and teacher Saint Mechtild, she practiced a spirituality called “nuptial mysticism,” that is, she came to see herself as the bride of Christ.
